What Happens After an ADHD Diagnosis?

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis often brings relief, clarity, and the question of what comes next. ADHD is a treatable condition, and there are clear, evidence-based guidelines to support your ongoing care.

Considering Medication

Medication may be an option if ADHD symptoms are significantly affecting at least one area of your daily life. Before starting any medication, routine pre-treatment checks are required.

Accessing Specialist Prescribing Support

To help you take the next step, we offer a post-diagnosis referral form for a trusted, CQC-registered external service. They provide specialist ADHD prescribing and can support you in exploring whether medication is right for you.

A specialist ADHD prescriber will work with you to:

  • Explore suitable medication options

  • Find the right dose for your needs

  • Ensure you are safely and effectively stabilised

Once your treatment is stable, the specialist may request a shared care agreement with your GP so your ongoing prescriptions can be managed locally.

Please note that a private ADHD assessment may not be accepted by your local NHS Trust, as each Trust reserves the right to determine which assessments it recognises
