What Happens After an ADHD Diagnosis?

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis can bring relief, validation, and a deeper understanding of yourself. It often provides answers to questions that may have been present for many years.

Importantly, ADHD is a recognised and treatable condition, and a range of support options are available to help you manage symptoms and thrive.

Considering Medication

For some individuals, medication can be an effective part of ADHD treatment, particularly when symptoms significantly impact daily life, work, education, or relationships.

Before medication is prescribed, appropriate pre-treatment assessments and health checks are required to ensure any treatment is safe and suitable for you.

Accessing Specialist Prescribing Support

To support your next steps, we can provide a post-diagnostic referral to a trusted, independent, CQC-registered ADHD prescribing service.

A specialist ADHD prescriber can work with you to:

  • Explore suitable medication options

  • Discuss the benefits and potential risks of treatment

  • Find the most effective dose for your individual needs

  • Monitor your progress and response to treatment

  • Ensure medication is safely and effectively optimised

Following successful stabilisation, the specialist may request a Shared Care Agreement with your GP to enable ongoing prescribing and monitoring within primary care.

Important Information

Please note that acceptance of private ADHD assessments varies across NHS Trusts and GP practices. Each NHS organisation retains the right to determine which independent assessments and diagnoses it recognises for treatment and shared-care arrangements.

We recommend discussing local policies with your GP if you intend to pursue NHS-supported treatment following a private assessment.
